Gunday Trailor & News at Dubai Flim Fest - Ranveer Singh and Priyanka chopra

Gunday @Dubai Film Fest

Bollywood buffs in Dubai got a taste of the retro look recreated in the upcoming Gunday as the makers of the film unveiled a fast-paced trailer of the movie at the 10th edition of Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) on Friday.

Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, who play the title roles, were present at the launch along with the film's female lead Priyanka Chopra and director Ali Abbas Zafar. The two male leads narrated the storyline of the Yashraj production as they unveiled the trailer.

Gunday is about refugees who become gun couriers before finally turning into coal bandits.

The sneak-peek depicts the wayward and crime-afflicted childhood of two Bangladeshi refugees, Bikram and Bala (played by Arjun and Ranveer), in the muddled Kolkata of the seventies. The chase-and-dodge sequences give a sense , bringing back flashes of Danny Boyle's multi-Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.

"This is the story of young refugees getting involved in crime. We tried to explore various aspects of the misery faced by refugees living in temporary settlements," said Zafar during the 'In Conversation With Gunday' session following the trailer launch.

The makers are highlighting Priyanka's cabaret number as a highlight in the film.

"The cabaret dancers of the seventies were the most enigmatic characters. We have tried to capture the looks and style of a glamorous cabaret dancer," said Priyanka about her character Nandita, a dancer working in a dingy bar.

Producer Aditya Chopra plans an extravagant trailer launch in India once the team is back from Dubai.

The narrator of the film, Irrfan - who plays a policeman chasing Bikram and Bala - was missing from DIFF despite the fact that he won the best actor award for The Lunchbox in the Muhr Asia Africa Feature Category.

The Lunchbox writer-director Ritesh Batra got a special mention for the film's screenplay from a jury headed by film-maker Shekhar Kapur.

Satyajit Ray's son Sandeep Ray won the Best Director award in the Muhr Asia Africa shorts category for his Bengali film Shirno Baahu (Thin Arms), which is about an octogenarian woman who undergoes treatment for a debilitating condition.
